During inspections of hydropower plants (HPPs) in Lori Province, the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body (EPMIB) documented cases of over-exploitation of water resources.
The HPPs “Arjut 1”, “Arjut 2”, and “Chichkhan”, owned by “Ler ev Jur” LLC, used water from the Lernajur, Pambak, and Chichkhan rivers in violation of their water use permit requirements. A compensation claim of 16,419,668 AMD has been issued for the damage caused to water resources.
The “Haghpat 1” HPP, owned by “OST-EL” LLC, extracted water from tributaries of the Debed River beyond the volumes allowed by its permit. The compensation claim for the damage caused amounts to 6,492,144 AMD.
The “Pozitron” HPP, owned by “Ayuda-Los” LLC, exceeded its permitted water use from the Marz River. The compensation claim for the damage caused totals 6,068,132 AMD.
Administrative fines totaling 1,760,000 AMD have been imposed on the directors of the companies.
