On August 16, at around 07:30 a.m., the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body (EPMIB) received an alert regarding pollution of the Debed River.
Inspectors from the Lori and Tavush Territorial Divisions of EPMIB conducted an extensive field inspections along the river to identify the potential source of contamination. The inspection revealed that a pipeline leading to the “Nahatak” tailings dam of the Akhtala Mining and Processing Enterprise had ruptured, which caused the river pollution.
Samples of water and soil were collected from different sections of the river.
A report on an apparent crime has been submitted to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
