In early July 2025, servicemen of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia alerted the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body regarding an exhausted and helpless bear cub located in the border zone between Vayots Dzor and Ararat.
On the same day, specialists from the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body took immediate action and transferred the approximately four-month-old cub of the Transcaucasian brown bear—listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia—to the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center operated by “Fauna-Zoo” LLC in Yerevan. There, the cub received essential initial care and medical treatment.
Following a recovery period of approximately three weeks, during which the cub’s health was carefully monitored, it was relocated to the animal shelter of the Urtsadzor Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets. Under a specially developed rehabilitation program, the cub will be provided with dedicated care in a natural environment, with the ultimate objective of reintroducing the animal into the wild.
