As part of an administrative proceeding initiated by the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body, it was revealed that the conditions in which a brown bear was kept in captivity at the “NAIRI SPA RESORTS” hotel complex in Hankavan, Kotayk Province, did not comply with the requirements established by law. Moreover, the individual keeping the wild animal lacked the necessary permit from the authorized body.
Thanks to joint efforts by the Inspection Body and the Ministry of Environment, the illegally held bear—listed in the Red Book of Armenia—was transferred to the Wildlife Care Center operated by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets.
Legal measures will be taken against the offender.
