EPMIB–YSU Joint Educational Program on GIS Completed

Mr. Hovhannes Martirosyan, Head of the Environment Protection and Mining Inspection Body (EPMIB), and Mr. Sargis Kelyan, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geology at Yerevan State University (YSU), summarized the GIS (Geographic Information System) training program designed for ERA staff.

The system’s main advantages include:

• Integration of spatial data collected from various sources,
• Combination of data from multiple sensors, including aerial and satellite imagery,
• Mapping and preparation of maps,
• Analysis of relationships between geographic objects,
• Visualization and management of natural resources.

It allows data to be combined while considering their geographic position, including coordinates, addresses, routes, and landscape features.

These joint educational initiatives, which promote professional development, are ongoing.
