On February 14, the leadership of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body (EPMIB) visited the Ararat Region as part of regional meetings.
The meeting was attended by EPMIB Deputy Heads Mr. V. Galoyan and Mr. V. Amirkhanyan, Ararat Region Governor Mr. S. Tevonyan, and heads of consolidated communities.
During the meeting, the governor, community leaders, and other stakeholders discussed air pollution caused by the burning of household waste, stubble, landfills, willows, dried leaves, and vegetation in agricultural fields.
The negative impacts of burning on atmospheric air, human health, biodiversity, and soil organic composition were presented.
Local self-government leaders, as primary actors in environmental protection, were urged to take measures to prevent and eliminate burning in communities.
As part of the regional visit, EPMIB representatives, together with local authorities, held meetings with residents of Verin Artashat community to address the above issues, providing educational and explanatory activities.
These measures are ongoing.
